It was only a matter of time.

For the most part our posts are all about the munchkin, her weekly achievements and all the fun things she's experiencing. This week may be a bit more parent related.
Last Sunday, the little lady had gotten this gnarly sounding cough. She's had coughing and sneezing since the day she was born, so identifying what wasn't normal was tricky. We woke up Monday and it was bad. Not knowing what we're doing, we got her dressed up for school and went for a second opinion. Miss Pat confirmed our suspicion.... munchkin was running a 100.3 fever and you could see it in her eyes that she didn't feel well. We were lucky for a cancellation at the pediatrician, so we got in at 9:30 to confirm a double ear infection and likely a sinus infection. She had a negative flu test and he didn't bother with a strep test since the antibiotic for the ear infections would take care of it anyway. At noon we started antibiotics. Now, for all of you mommy's out there, all of you who told me how great mommyhood and babies were, what a joy they were to be around, etc, etc,... yes, you all neglected to warn me of how incredibly pitiful a sick baby would be. Seriously, the saddest thing I have ever seen. The ONLY positive thing that came out of my two days at home with her, was her want to be held. It's been several months since she wanted to be held while she slept. So stinkin' sad. It took several days to get her fever under control and several more days before her personality came back. She still has a cough, but she's laughing and smiling like her old self. HOORAY!

On top of this fun time, I found myself at urgent care Monday night with a fever and sore throat. I too tested negative for flu and strep and was told it was congestion related to a cold I had picked up from some where {cough, "munchkin," cough - probably where she got her runny nose and cough}. I'm still trying to recover since they gave me nothing to take care of it (boo).
As a side note, I was super excited to learn that the recipe for amoxicillin hasn't changed since I was a child... the smell and taste are still the same {wink, wink}. I had to see for myself, okay!!

Now, our week started off pretty much, doo doo. However, she had two engagements that had been on her calendar for months - her first official Christmas party where she wasn't the plus one and on December 20... a trip to see the Big Man - Santa! Now, It's been a minute since I had been to see Santa - Farmer too - so planning to beat a highly anticipated crowd was top priority. The place we decided to go draws a crowd from states away. It's an all day affair with live reindeer, North Pole Express, elf games, crafts, build a bear's, Elsa and Ana, etc. - like, some serious intensity of Christmas fun. The doors opened at 9:45. Farmer (aka - Dad of the Year) went ahead of us and was there at 9. When the doors opened, people literally RAN to get in line. We were #40. As we made our away around while waiting - we stuffed a bear to be donated to Infant Crisis Center, we built an Olaf (as we both pulled out our phones to figure who the heck Olaf was), listened to live music, watched Mrs. Santa read stories and waited our turn.... just in time for Nora to decide she wanted to take a nap - insert fidgets and pouts. Farmer and I both look at each, like, "oh, great - perfect timing." But alas - she held it together and glared into Santa's eyes with her little munchkin stare... there were no smiles... there were no laughs... only a intense stare that only the munchkin knows how.... but we're stoked with the great pictures we got.

And with that, we leave you for another week. I hope you all have a very safe week if you're traveling and hopefully you're able to spend time with your family or someone you find very special. Our hearts are full with love for getting to share such a special time with such a little nugget of joy.
Much love,
The Farmers

Sick babies ARE the most pitiful thing ever. The cuddling is definitely a plus though. Hopefully everyone is feeling better now!
