I give up
Optimism is failing me. Oy.
Welp, if you follow me on Instagram, you'll see we had us a little vacation. Spring Break is this week, child had been begging to go to the beach, so we planned it - late last year. A trip to Tallahassee to see my BFF from college then over to Amelia Island (outside of J'ville). Come Thursday, we had a decision to make - are we keeping our flights or staying on the side of caution and driving. On top of the beach, she wanted to ride on an airplane. After about 7 hours, cumulatively, waiting on hold, we got things canceled and started making road trip plans. Nora was heartbroken. While we weren't in complete isolation - we stayed outside and away from people - visiting State Parks and such. Traffic was light. Things were closed. Eery.
This world and time are strange right now. Are you relaxed? Are you panicked? Are you somewhere in between not knowing what to feel? There are only a few things we can control right now. Explaining this "thing" to a five-year-old has been interesting. We're being as honest as we can - not understanding a lot of things ourselves. The days and weeks ahead should be ... fun. Nora is out of school indefinitely - queue virtual learning, which starts Tuesday. Farmer and I both continue working. We have a new normal ahead of us, as we all do.
Stay sane out there friends. Take walks, Facetime, exercise. Get to that list of home projects you just haven't had time for.
Enjoy some photos of our trip.
No roadtrip is complete with losing a tooth. Sleep. Wake. Pull tooth.
We arrived. AND THERE WERE CATS!!
We checked out St. Mark's Lighthouse in St. Mark's, FL - spotted bald eagles, alligators and hermit crabs. Mr. Erik (aka "Bob") was a wealth of information. We hit up Wakulla Springs too. The boat tours were closed, so, I didn't get any photos.
They showed us all the breweries. #photosbynora
Guys. It was 69°. She insisted. She was blue when it was all said and done, but she got to swim.
Friends for 20 years right here!!! She's known me at my best and known me at my worst. Ride or die.
We walked around the Tallahassee Museum which was WAY cool. Nora touched a snake. we were too far away to get a photo. I'm in love with cypress trees and Spanish moss.
Nora preaching the word at an old church.
Whilst teaching our human about the finer things in life - we quickly learned she has a gift for trash talk.
And even more trash talk.
Shark tooth hunting.
Sunrise.

Mid trash talk.
More trash talk. And even more trash talk.
Monday morning we said our goodbyes and drove over to Amelia Island (way upper east corner of Florida and part of the barrier islands. We're in love.
March 16. 8 years ago. We remember you. Nora knows about you.
Lunchtime views.
Just a girl and her ocean. I get it, girl. I get it.
It was a pretty chilly day, so we decided to check out Fort Clinch (Florida state park #3). The hiking trails were our favorite. It sits between Egans Creek and the Atlantic. In the photo below you can sort of see lighthouse #2 - Amelia Island Lighthouse.
So these were cool - hiking along and you come upon these coastal depression ponds. They were so peaceful and eery at the same time. Nora was our trail guide. Shark tooth hunting.
Sunrise.
Bagged us a shark tooth.
Checking out downtown Fernandina Beach.
Overall, it was a great getaway. It was really seeing REAL Florida. It's so much more than sandy beaches. It was nice to visit with friends and sort of unplug and not think about what the coming weeks and months have in store for us.
Love on one another (at a safe distance). Check on people - especially your extroverted friends - they're struggling right now.
