When She Turns into a Mean Girl
It was a rough week, guys. Which is why I'm two days late on writing this. When there's a lot to say, it takes a lot to sit down and start pounding keys.
So as not to make this a 200-page dissertation, long story short, we got a text from her teacher (which never happens) telling us that she had been really ugly to her friends at school - verbally. Telling them that no one will come to their birthday party because it's dumb. Telling friends she won't play with them because she doesn't like them. That sort of thing. My mouth dropped. This couldn't possibly be my child. Ya know, when we knew we would only have one child, it was really important to us that she not be a jerk face. And here we are. Dealing with a jerk face.
It hurt, ya know? Like, where have we messed up? How has this happened? I realize she's 4, but to say such hurtful things. And how do you break that down and explain it to her where she can understand it? We tried. We did our best. Until Friday, when we've asked her teacher to report into us - we've taken her iPad away and she wasn't allowed a playdate over the weekend. When she asked, "why..." The answer was simple, "when you learn to treat your friends at school with respect, you aren't allowed to play with friends outside of school."
And that's it. That's the stuff they don't warn you about when you tell people you're pregnant. The hard decisions... the "parenting." Take it for what it is.
Getting herself ready for ballet.
Daddy shenanigans.
